Mrs. Adell Bush Byrd, 93, of Swainsboro passed away Thursday night, November 16, 2017 at Pruitt Health Swainsboro following a short illness.

Mrs. Byrd was born October 1, 1924 in Johnson County to the late Jim Bell Bush and Della Douglas Bush. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. James Ruben Byrd; daughter, Sallie Marie Long Robbins; brothers, Lonzie Bush, Jesse Bush, Charles Esra “Biggun” Bush; sisters, Annie Mae Wilkes, Dessie Bell Wilcher, Mary Lee Page and Myrtle Love; and four infant siblings. Mrs. Byrd was retired from Creston, Argo Mills with 17 years of service. Mrs. Adell dearly loved her family, friends, and Church Family, but above all, she loved her Saviour Jesus Christ. Her Favorite things included flowers, animals, reading, traveling, cooking, sewing and later in life she enjoyed learning to paint. She was a precious, beautiful, smart lady who showed the love of Jesus by being kind to all she met. She was a second mom to all the neighborhood kids and her children’s friends, a caring neighbor, and a server of the community and her Church. After retirement she began volunteering and serving others by being a faithful volunteer at Emanuel County Medical Center including volunteer of the year in 2010, Golden Harvest Food Bank and also Swainsboro Senior Center for over 20 years, during which she was volunteer of the year in 1997. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 45 years where she sang in the choir, was the secretary of the Adult Sunday School Class, and secretary for Vacation Bible School for many years. Many of her acts of kindness were anonymous because she wanted to serve and not the recognition.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Wilbur Long, Jr. of Midway; daughter, Deborah Lynn Strickland Mills (Warren) of Baxley; grandchildren, Scott Thomas Robbins, Lindsay O’Hara Long Nebeshynsky (Chris), and Thomas Charles Long, Kimberly Mills, Marla Atkins (Mark), and Shanna Jackson; great-granchildren, Logan Atkins, Ellie Atkins, Katelyn Jackson, and Walker Jackson; special sons and daughters-in-love, Catherine Cooper Long, Jeri Strickland, and Rev. & Mrs. Steve Byrd; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
