Mr. George N. Ivey, Jr.,95, of Kite passed away Monday morning, April 3, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.

           Mr. Ivey was born in Swainsboro, Ga., son of the late George N. Ivey and Ali Belle Davis Ivey. He graduated from Kite High School in 1940. Mr. Ivey was drafted into WWII not long after he married his young bride, Annette Claxton. He was inducted into the Marines on Dec. 19, 1943 and served his country in the battles of Normandy and the initial invasion of Iwo Jima. He returned home and bought the family farm where he could live out his passion for farming. He also worked for many years as a Construction Superintendent for A.J. Kellos, Augusta, Ga. and supervised many sites including the outdoor amphitheater and the once state of the art Aquarama on Jekyll Island; In his retirement, he diligently worked the land from sun up to sun down. He was a lifelong member of Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harrison Ivey and Bennett Ivey; sisters, Brownie Ivey Davis, and Bessie Ivey Lamb.

           Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Annette Claxton Ivey; daughters, Sandra I. Anderson of Kite, Judy I. Scott (Joel) of Wrightsville, Lisa I. Troup (Chris) of Greenville, SC.; sons, Nick Ivey (Diane), and Jimmy Ivey (Vicki) both of Kite; grandchildren, Robyn Foskey, Christy Anderson, Sherry Rowland, Bruce Ivey, Ginny Price, Denise Wombles, Todd Ivey, Amy Jackson, Pratt Scott, Michelle Troup, and Allison Troup; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

           Funeral services will be held at Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church 2p.m. Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2017 with Reverends Burton Dixon, Robert (Bob) Rathbun, and Roger Holley officiating. Mr. Ivey will lie in state one prior to service.

           Interment will follow in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

           The family will receive friends from 6 to 8p.m. Wednesday afternoon, April 5, 2017 at Chapman Funeral Home.

            Pallbearers are Nick Ivey, Jimmy Ivey, Bruce Ivey, Todd Ivey, Chris Anderson, Pratt Scott, Chris Troup, and Joel Scott.

            Honorary Pallbearers Wayne Ward, Eddie Henry, Skippy Attaway, Sonny Norris, Dr. Andy Williamson, and Bob Spivey.
