Mrs. Mattie Evelyn Marsh Screws,85, of Swainsboro passed away Wednesday night, February 14, 2018 at Pruitt of Swainsboro following an extended illness.
Mrs. Screws was born August 20, 1932 in Emanuel County to the late Andrew Hartwell Marsh and Sallie Pearl Walker Marsh. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Screws, Sr.; son, Arthur Screws, Jr.; brothers, Edward Marsh and Melton Marsh; grandson, Ray Thomas Black, Jr; granddaughter, Leigh Wolfrey. Mrs. Screws was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County. She enjoyed listening to preaching and talk shop on the radio. Mrs. Screws worked for over 11 years at Crestons as a seamstress. She loved caring for her family, cooking and bird watching. Mrs. Screws was a godly Christian woman and a member of Wadley Church of God.
Survivors include her son, Steve (Donna) Screws of Metter; daughters, Mary (Gary) Woods of Swainsboro, Betty (Tommy) Whitener of Hepzibah, and Janice Black of Swainsboro; brother, Bobby (Irene) Marsh of Sevierville, TN; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 with Reverends Earl Warnock and Morris Brantley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
