Barbara Mosses

            Ms. Barbara Mosses, 79, of Charleston, SC, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019.

           Ms. Mosses was born September 16, 1939 in Chattahoochee, FL to the late William Gordy and Meryl Hill.   She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, J. P. Atkinson; brother, Jack Porter Atkinson, Jr.; grandson, Cole Mosses.  Ms. Mosses graduated from E.C.I. in 1957 and was valedictorian of her class.  She graduated from University of Georgia with a teaching degree and continued her education with her master’s degree.  Under Governor Edwards of South Carolina, she was the administrator of the Early Childhood Development Program. Ms. Mosses taught special education at E.C.I., Albany, and C. E. Williams, also was a Cheerleader Coach at E.C.I.  She enjoyed Christmas, cooking, antiques, and growing flowers inside and outside. Ms. Mosses loved her family and friends. She was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church for over 25 years.

            Survivors include her son, Sean W. Mosses of Twin City; daughter, Holly B. Mosses of Charleston, SC; brother, Lawrence Atkinson (Patricia) of Garfield; grandsons, Josh Mosses and Jacob Mosses, both of Charleston, SC; great-grandson, Reid Mosses of Twin City; several nieces, nephews and friends.

            Funeral Services will be at Garfield United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Tom Tidwell officiating. Ms. Mosses will lie in state one-hour prior to service.

            Interment will follow at Hebron Primitive Baptist Cemetery. 

            The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Chapman Funeral Home.

            Pallbearers are Josh Mosses, Jacob Mosses, Lash Atkinson, Matt Brown, Buck Brown, and Reginald Johnson.

            Honorary Pallbearers are current and retired educators.
