Ms. Dorothy “Dot” R. Dykes, 72, of Swainsboro passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Candler Hospital in Savannah following an extended illness.
Dot was born April 24, 1947 in Warrenton, GA. to the late Elton Roberson and Vondelle Turner Sherrod. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack Roberson. She was retired from Chemetron Fire Systems in Swainsboro after 40 years of employment. Dot was an avid reader, enjoyed cross stitching and crafting and more than anything she loved spending time with her two grandsons. Dot attended as many school performances and baseball games as possible. She was lovingly called GaGa by her two boys. She was known to spoil them rotten each time she visited whether it be by making sure they had a fresh-out-of-the-dryer warm towel after bath, scratching their backs for hours on the couch or treating them to a milkshake and fries after school. Dot was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include her daughter Kelly (Ben) Claxton of Pooler; sisters, Roma Roberts of St. Louis, MO, Marie Johnson, Wanda (Wyatt) Youngblood, Vicki Sherrod, all of Swainsboro; grandsons, Kyle Claxton, Evan Claxton, both of Pooler; special family, Larry & Sheila Dykes, Zachary Dykes, all of Vidalia.
Memorial Service will be Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home
with Pastor Melvin Habersham.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.
