Eddie Benton Kirkland, 81, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 5, 2019, following an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Emanuel County, Mr. Kirkland lived most of his life on his family’s farm north of Swainsboro. It was in a cotton field on that farm that he met the love of his life, Dollie Mae Scarboro, whom he married on November 7, 1964. He was a lifelong member of Bithynia Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, treasurer, and Bible study teacher. Mr. Kirkland was a retired carpenter and farmer.
Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Esther Harper Kirkland, his beloved aunt, Iness Scarboro, his brother, Edward Lane Kirkland, and sisters, Carolyn Wren and Sarah Scott.
Mr. Kirkland leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Dollie Kirkland; his daughters, Kathy C. Kirkland of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Kerry Kirkland Curry and husband Marc, and Kristi Kirkland Moore and husband Tony; his son, Kelly Kirkland and wife Lauren; granddaughters, Lynnsey Curry Denney and husband Ashley, Cassidy Curry, and Madison Moore, Hannah Cauley and husband, Marland; and great-grandchildren Ellee Beth Denney, Marlanna, Clay, Weston and Wesley Cauley; a sister, Virginia Herndon and husband Richard of Twin City, a brother-in-law, John Scott, of Twin City, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Bithynia Primitive Baptist Church with Mr. Gerald Henry officiating.
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Zack Martin, Ashley Denney, Glenn Scarboro, Keith Wright, Johnny Sparks, and Tyler Sparks.
