Mr. Henry “HB” Ely, 90, of Swainsboro passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Pruitt Health of Swainsboro following an extended illness.
Mr. Ely was born March 22, 1927 in Soperton, Ga. to the late Henry Lee Ely and Lillie Mae Johnson Ely. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Glisson Ely; sons, Howard Ely, Ronald Ely, and Jerry Nunn. Mr. Ely was a self-employed painter having lived in Emanuel County for the last 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and telling old tells. Mr. Ely was a member of Holten Chapel Advent Christian Church.
Survivors include his sons, Larry Dean Ely (Teresa) of Dellwood, Wayne Nunn of Dunwoody, and Tony Nunn (Jana) of Swainsboro; daughters, Linda Faye Hall (Donald) of Swainsboro, Deborah Hadden (Charles) of Swainsboro, Joan Achey (Steve) of Ridgeville, SC., June Johnson of Dellwood, Mary Ann Brantley (Morris) of Swainsboro, and Sybil Wilkerson of Swainsboro; brothers, James Ely of Blackville, and Leland Ely of Soperton; sister, Doris Thigpen of Swainsboro; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 with Reverends Arthur Conley,Roger Holley, and Morris Brantley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Troup Brinson, Kris Meeks, Charlie Hadden, James Ely, Gavin Edenfield, and Corey Adams.
Honorary Pallbearers are Gabe Lee, Jack Lee, B.J. Scarboro, Chace Scarboro, Lane Adams, Bryson Hopkins, Dustin Brantley, Z Brinson, and Tyler Brinson.
