Mr. Johnny Morris Muns, 68, of Swainsboro, GA. passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta following a brief illness.
Mr. Muns was born in Swainsboro, GA November 12, 1950 to the late Phillip Muns and Ruth Kersey Muns. He was preceded in death by his parents. Johnny was a dedicated law enforcement officer for 28 years. He worked with Burke County S.O. as a road deputy, investigator and firearm instructor. Johnny was also Chief of Police in Sardis until he retired. He also engraved guns and knives. His knives have been featured in national magazines across the U.S. Law enforcement agencies would use his knives as presentation items. Johnny loved his family and treasured his friends. His grandchildren were his heart. On Saturday nights during racing season, he could be found with Payton Johnson, his grandson, working hard to keep the #25 race car running. Johnny enjoyed taking granddaughter, Kennedy, fishing and caring for the horses. He could be caught in his recliner reading to the youngest granddaughter, Caroline. Johnny wa loved by his family unconditionally. He served in the US Army and was a member of the VFW, Masons, and Shriners. Mr. Muns was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Muns is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Matthews Muns; son, Johnny Ray Muns (Jennifer) of Evans, GA; daughter, Tammy Muns Flake (Joey) of Girard, GA; brother, Tommy Muns (Kathy) of Swainsboro; sister, Deborah Bussell (John) of Garfield; 3 grandchildren, Payton Johnson, Kennedy Muns, Caroline Muns; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Chapman Funeral Home.
