Margaret Hopkins Obituary

            Margaret (Copeland) Hopkins, 91, retired from Lower Keys Memorial Hospital and a 24-year local banking career, died peacefully Friday Feb. 15, 2019, at her home in Key West.

She was the widow of Charles R. “Randy” Hopkins, who passed away Dec. 25, 2010 in Key West.   Margaret and her children moved to Key West in 1966 after her marriage to Randy in January of that year in Georgia.

Well-known for 18 years as a veteran central PBX /telephone operator at LKMC, Margaret had retired in January, 2014.  In earlier years in Key West, she had carved out a career in local banking, first at the Florida National Bank on Front Street, and then at First Federal Savings and Loan, working at the Southard Street bank and later at the Kennedy Drive bank as supervisor of insurance for the mortgage department.  She retired from that position but returned twice on request.

Born Margaret Copeland on April 18, 1927 at Swainsboro, Georgia, she was the daughter of Leon Copeland and Adell (Edenfield) Copeland.  She lived in Swainsboro, graduating from high school there, and then lived in Savannah Ga., 1952-1962, and in Macon 1962-1966.

She was predeceased by a son, Patrick Derriso (widow Maratha), of Clearwater and previously of Key West, also her mother and father, her sister Shirley Grant and brother Curly Kitchens

Margaret Hopkins is survived by two children, Larry (Vicki) Derriso of McMinnville, TN., Beverly (David) Ray of Key West, a step-son, Randy Hopkins, Jr., of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren, Stacie (Robby), Patrick (Chrissy), Mellie, Angie, Jessie, Katlyn, Joey (Tonya); and six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and very special friends. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Funeral Chapel of Key West Mortuary, 328 Truman Ave., at 3:00____ pm., with the Rev. Mother Sarah Fowler, AGAPE National Catholic Church of North America, officiating, and special speaker Dr. Jerome Covington.

Funeral Services will be at 12 p.m.  Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Interment will follow at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
