Mr. Riley Michael “Mickey” Garnto, 65, of Kite passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 28, 2017 at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Garnto was born December 24, 1951 in Metter, Ga. to the late Riley Morris Garnto and Dorothy Brantley Garnto. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Garnto graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1969, from Middle Georgia College in 1972, and Georgia South Western University in 1974. He coached for several years, beginning at Washington-Johnson County, Beechwood, Robert Toombs, Pinewood, D.E.A, and Southwood where he won a state Championship. Mr. Garnto was inducted into the G.I.S.A. Hall of Fame in 2015. He was very involved in Kappa Sigma, beginning in 1972 and continuing throughout his life. Mr. Garnto was a member at Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Ryan Garnto (Merrit) of Albany, Ga.; sister, Delaine Garnto Maglioli of Swainsboro; several cousins, and other family.
Funeral Services will be held at Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 with Elder Mickey Harris officiating. Mr. Garnto will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm. to 9 pm. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jeff Bennett, David Howard, Vince Allen, Troy Long, Jake Fleming, Jon Dorminey, Tripp Simpson, Dale Taylor, Reece Cohen, Dennis Davis, Dennis Taylor, Marty McDonald.
Honorary Pallbearers are Kappa Sigma Brothers.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kappa Sigma Alumni foundation 1905 Iverness Parkway Columbus Ga. 31909 or organization of choice.
