Sara Youmans Montgomery, a loving, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away February 2nd, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Sara was born November 16th, 1924 in Swainsboro, Georgia to Ira Truman and Sallie Mae Youmans. While in school in Jacksonville, FL she met Asa Truman Montgomery and they were married in 1945. Asa and Sarah were married over 50 years and had three children together Vicki Montgomery, Robert T. Montgomery, and Kim Norvell.
Sara was the matriarch of the Montgomery family who was determined to keep everyone in line. She was a social butterfly who enjoyed traveling, playing cards, eating out, and chatting with friends. When she wasn’t busy winning at Bridge or beating her grandchildren at “Spit Mouse” she enjoyed relaxing with Gun Smoke on the television or jamming to Frank Sinatra. In her later years, she mostly enjoyed eating out but could still make a mean cheese ball and potato salad. Most of all, Sara cherished time with her family and gave graciously to all of them. Sara’s authenticity and generosity are what many will remember about her most.
Sara was preceded in death by her bother (Tate), sister (Floye), and Husband. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews, and several cousins. A funeral service will be held at Owens Funeral Home in Louisville, KY at 5pm on Tuesday February 5th, 2019.
Graveside Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Youmans Cemetery.
