Barney Mason

March 30, 1941 — April 28, 2012

Mr. Barney Mason, 71, of Swainsboro died Saturday morning, April 28, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Mason was born in Johnson County and a life long resident of Johnson and Emanuel County.  He was preceded in death by his parents Jay and Pauline McCoy Mason, brother, Sammy Mason and stepson, Michael Williams.

Mr. Mason was a retired truck driver, he worked with B and H Transport before becoming self employed.  He was an avid nascar racing fan and loved racing cars himself.  Mr. Mason liked to hang out at his shop known as his man cave.   He loved playing and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Mason of Swainsboro; son, Terry (Shannon) Mason of Kite; stepsons, Robert (Melanie) Williams of Kite, Steve (Dawn) Williams of Swainsboro, Dereck (Tammy) Williams of Kite; stepdaughter Melinda (Don) Harbuck of North August; brothers, Grable (Susie) Mason of Alamo, Jr (Mattie) Mason, Danny (Joan) Mason, Howard Mason, Wayne (Tricia) Mason and Paul Mason all of Swainsboro; sisters, Jane (Ron) Smith of Dublin, Patsy (Johnnie) Colston and Linda Mason both of Kite; 20 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Monday, afternoon April 30, 2012 with Reverends Joe Bedgood and Arthur Conley officiating.  Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday April 29, 2012 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ryan McClain, Lil Robert Mason, Clip Claxton, Tom Shaughnessy, Tyler Colston, and Amanuel Claxton.
