J.C. Buxton, 85, of Kite was called to glory Thursday morning, April 21, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Buxton was born August 23, 1930 in Lancing, TN. to the late John Buxton and Ruth Collins Buxton. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years Thelma Buxton. Mr. Buxton has lived in Kite for the past 39 years. He began working with Southern Railroad in 1949 starting out as a laborer and then working his way up to Track Supervisor. In 1967 he was put in charge of the whole southern territory with his headquarters being in Swainsboro. Mr. Buxton retired from Southern Railway in 1987. He then began driving a school bus for Johnson Co. and after many years he went to Emanuel Co. driving a bus where he retired in 2013 with 20 years at the age of 82. He was a Faithful member of the Kite Church of God and he was the Patriarch of “The Buxtons” singing gospel music for over 25 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Regina (George) Archer of Twin City; sons, Michael (Ann) Buxton of Kite, Randy (Mary Jo) Buxton of Kite, and Freddie (Penny) Buxton of Oak Park; 8 grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter; sister-in-law Martha Collins; brother-in-law Joe Kidd; cousin, Rita Ruffner; Many more “Grandchildren” that grew up on his schoolbus, and his special family of caregivers Brittney McReynolds, Kathy Brown, Jodi Hackle, Jada Weeks , and Pruitt Hospice of Swainsboro. several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Kite Church of God at 1:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2016 with Reverends Allen Meeks and Earl Warnock officiating. Mr. Buxton will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Kite City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6pm. to 8pm. Friday afternoon, April 22, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home.
