March 14, 1923 — February 5, 2014

Mrs. Mercedes Rivera, 90, of Twin City died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Azalea Manor Nursing Home in Metter following an extended illness.

Mrs. Rivera was born March 14, 1923 in Comerio, Puerto Rico to the late Eloy Rivera Luna and Evangelista Santiago.  Mrs. Rivera was one of six children.  Mrs. Rivera was preceded in death by her sons, Angel Luis Capeles, Miguel Capeles, Francisco Capeles and Hector Capeles; daughter, Carmen Capeles; brother, Evangelista Rivera; sisters, Bienzenida Rivera and Luz Rivera.  She lived in Puerto Rico until 1956 when she moved to New York.  Mrs. Rivera was known for sewing and designing clothes.  She was also the seamstress for the famous Bill Cosby Sweaters that were worn during his shows.  Mrs. Rivera moved to Twin City in July 2011 to be with her family.  She was a member of the United Latin American Pentecostal Church in Twin City.

Survivors include her daughters, Maria Perez and Aida (Adrian) Burgos all of Twin City; sister, Argelia Rivera of Stamford Connecticut; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 7:00 o’clock Saturday evening, February 8, 2014 with Pastor Adrian Burgos officiating.  Interment will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery at 1:00 o’clock  Sunday, February 9, 2014.

The family will receive friends from 4 pm until time of service.
