Mr. Abelardo Vazquez, 77, of Swainsboro passed away Saturday evening, September 10, 2016 in Fayetteville, NC. following an extended illness.
Mr. Vazquez was born March 5, 1939 in Cienfuegos, Cuba to the late Ramon Vazquez and Angela Romero Vazquez. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lilia Delgado. He was the youngest of three children. His father was Ramon Vazquez and his mother was Angela Vazquez. His older sister was Lilia, and his older brother was Raymond. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 16, in 1956.
He met his wife in 1957 in Miami, Florida. They married in 1958. They had their first child, Anthony, in 1960. He worked at several jobs in Miami, some of them were, fiberglass boat maker, he owned and operated a gas station, and as a counter man in a hydraulic supply store.
They had a daughter, Lisa, in 1969. They moved to Georgia in 1970. Here he worked at Automatic Sprinkler and Larkin Industries, that later became Lifeline Industries and finally became Gasser Industries.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a member of the Parrish Council. He served the Priest at Mass. He helped begin the Hispanic Ministry. He was the first recipient of the Bishop Garland Award. He was always ready to lend a hand and help anyone, although he never asked for help. Mr. Vazquez was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 46 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Newsome Vazquez of Swainsboro; son, Anthony (Doris) Vazquez of Jacksonville, FL.; daughter, Lisa (Keith) Gay of Fayetteville, NC.; brother, Raymond Vazquez of Miami, FL.; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Tobin, Paula (Lance) Stewart, Nikki Vazquez, Jessica Gay, Brandon Gay, Sabrina Gay; 9 Great-Grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, September 16, 2016 with Father Brian officiating.
Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery and Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening, September 15, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Newsome, Chris Newsome, Joey Newsome, Shane Smith, Zolten Rios, and Randy Fields.
Honorary Pallbearers are members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
