Mrs. Alice “Jan” Smith Cook, 71, of Swainsboro passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025, at her residence. She was born on January 17, 1954, in Adrian to James Hoyle Smith and Elaine Hammock Smith. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents.
Jan worked for 22 years in childcare. She was known as “Nana Jan” to all her many children. She was a pageant lover and judge for many years. Jan loved shelling peas, cream corn, and making fig preserves. She was known for her red velvet cakes.
Mrs. Cook is survived by daughter, Tanisha Dorsey of Swainsboro; 2 grandchildren, Rhett Dorsey (Sierra Milligan) of Swainsboro, Sydney Dorsey (Adam Howard) of Statesboro, sister, Sue Morris (Al) of Savannah; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; many friends.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2025, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Curt Grimm officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 4, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Corinth Church Cemetery in Meeks.
Pallbearers will be Rhett Dorsey, Adam Howard, Ryan Kersey, John Kersey, Hunter Whitaker, and Jamie Tanner.
