Alton Claxton

Mr. Alton Claxton, 72, of Kite passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Serenity Place following an extended illness.

Mr. Claxton was born August 27, 1945 in Kite, Ga. to the late Clifford Claxton and Juanita Tapley Claxton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Claxton. Mr. Claxton served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, woodworking, and anything outdoors. Mr. Claxton loved his grandchildren. He was a member of V.F.W. Swainsboro and American Legion Wrightsville. Mr. Claxton was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gloria Greenway Claxton of Kite; daughter, Drucilla Lee Peebles (Steve) of Kite; son, Ron Claxton (Karen) of Kite; brothers, Jimmy Claxton (Barb) of Kite, Billy Claxton (Annette) of Wrightsville, Otis Claxton (Marie) of Tennille, and Clifford Claxton, Jr. (Susan) of Wrightsville; sisters, Gail Johnson of Canoochee, Kay Hall and Debra Lawson both of Swainsboro, Stacie Marsh (Kevin) of Kite, and Peggy Hurst (Al) of Canoochee; sister-in-law, Patricia Claxton of Kite; grandchildren, Dustin Peebles, Christopher Peebles, Emma Kate Peebles, Anna Claxton, Amanda Claxton, and Cameron Claxton; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be at Mintons Chapel Advent Christian Church 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 with Reverends Burton Dixon and Bob Rathburn officiating. Mr. Claxton will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Interment will follow at Mintons Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Claxton, Jr., Keith Claxton, Trey Claxton, Clifford Claxton, III, Jason Martin, Zeb Hurst, and Clint Rowland.
