Mrs. Annie Viola Newberry Montgomery, 69, of Savannah died Monday evening, May 14, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Montgomery was born in Macon and a native of Emanuel County before moving to Savannah.  She was preceded in death by her parents Newman and Bessie Ross Newberry; husband, Jerry B. Montgomery, Sr.;  brother, Lawrence Newberry; sisters, Betty Yarborough, Martha Stanley, and Margaret Tucker.  Mrs. Montgomery was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her sons, Donald (Myrreld) Roberson and Jesse Roberson both of Savannah; stepson, Jerry B. Montgomery, Jr. of Savannah; daughter, Teresa Corns of Savannah; stepdaughter, Donna McGuire of Savannah; brothers, Larry Newberry and John (Faith) Newberry both of Macon; sisters, Reba Trotter of Metter and Lillie Mae (Ted) Davidson of Tennessee; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Thursday, afternoon May 17, 2012 with Reverend Larry Newberry officiating.  Burial will be in the Bithynia Baptist Church Cemetery near Swainsboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday May 16, 2012 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Stanfield, Randall Corns, Jimmy Williams, Larry Kersey, Charles Yarborough and Ray Ball Roberson.
