Mrs. Arlene Gay Grimes, 70, of Twin City passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Grimes was born August 10, 1946 in Statesboro, Ga. to the late Bill Gay and Lola Lamb Gay. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wayne Grimes; brothers, B.L. Gay, James L. Gay, and Cecil Gay; sister, Mildred Gay. Mrs. Grimes was a lifelong residence of Emanuel County. She was a homemaker, liked collecting apple decorations, and was an avid race car fan. Mrs. Grimes was a member of Aaron Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, David Grimes of Twin City; grandsons, Bubba Williams, and Caleb Akridge both of Twin City; daughters, Mary Ann Grimes, and Cheryl Lynn Akridge both of Twin City; brothers, Ronnie Gay (Tammy) of Statesboro, and Larry Gay (Wanda) of Aline; sisters Juanita Ivey (Thomas) of Statesboro; special friends, Shandy Hodges, and Raelynn Hodges both of Canoochee; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Twin City Church of God 11 a.m. Saturday morning, February 18, 2017 with Reverends John Woodcock, Roy Jarriel, and Max Rodgers officiating. Mrs. Grimes will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6pm. to 8pm. Friday evening, February 17, 2017 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Athen Walden, W.C. Grimes, Jim Mercer, Ronnie Goodman, Norman Goodman, and Bill Bird.
