Aubry Jinx Womack

Mr. Aubry Jinx Womack of Swainsboro, Ga. passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Emanuel County Nursing Home in Swainsboro, Ga.  Jinx was born on June 20, 1943, the son of Auby L. Womack and Majorie Peebles Womack of Blundale, Ga.

He graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1961. He received his Associates of Arts degree from Middle Georgia College in 1963 and later his Bachelor of Science degree from Valdosta State University in 1965.  He furthered his education at Middle Tennessee State University where he received his master’s degree in history and political science.  He completed his course work at Middle Tennessee State for his Doctoral Program where he received an Honors Award in History.

Jinx completed an African Studies Program at Boston University during the summer of 1966 which prepared him for The United States Peace Corps Program where he was in Instructor of History and coached the men’s basketball team at Advanced Teacher’s College in Kano, Nigeria in West Africa. He served two years in the Peace Corps from 1966 to 1968.

Jinx traveled in 1968 touring Spain, Canada and Mexico. He became the Associate Professor of History at Fort Valley College from 1969 to 1979 when he moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he served for 20 years as professor of history at Stillman College where he served as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences and International Studies.

Jinx returned home to Blundale in 2000 to assist and care for his aging parents. He devoted his life to their care and that of his sister, Kay, who fought a courageous battle with cancer. He worked tirelessly on the family property creating a beautiful setting with their pond and grape vineyard.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Kay Womack Davis.  Surviving is a sister, Judy Womack Mincey of Statesboro, one nephew, David D. Mincey (Tara) and their children, Cole Mincey (Caroline) and Cale Mincey.  He is also survived by many cousins, two of which are Donnie Garrett of Dellwood and G.W. Johnson of Twin City.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 31, 2025, at Blundale Baptist Church with Rev Jamie Archer officiating, assisted by Reverend Shannon Boula.

Interment will follow in the Blundale Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be G.W. Johnson, Donnie Garrett, Jimmy May, Greg Johnson, Craig Peebles, and Scotty Womack.

The family request in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Blundale Baptist Church at PO Box 561, Swainsboro Ga 30401.
