Berry Dean Hatcher

January 16, 1948 — May 20, 2013

Mr. Berry Dean Hatcher, 65, of Midville died Monday morning May 20, 2013 at the Bethany Nursing Center in Millen following an extended illness.

Mr. Hatcher was born in Augusta to the late Andrew Perry Hatcher and Elease Sherrod Hatcher.  He was preceded in death by his son, Dean Andrew “Andy” Hatcher.

Mr. Hatcher was a Swainsboro High School graduate.  He lived in the Midville community until he joined the military in 1967.  Mr. Hatcher was in the United States Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War.  He received the Air Medal with Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and a number of other metals during his time in the military.  After serving in the military, he got a degree in criminal justice and moved to Michigan.  Mr. Hatcher worked in the State of Michigan Prison System until retirement.  He was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lorretta Hatcher of Midville; brothers, Joe (Tommie) Hatcher of Midville, Mike (Teresa) Hatcher of Twin City; sister, Barbara Ann (Phil) Hale of Lincoln AL; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 4:00 o’clock with Rev. Lee Pettis officiating.  Burial will be private.
