Bertha Mae Stapleton

November 15, 1929 — May 18, 2015

Mrs. Bertha Mae Stapleton, 85, formerly of Kite passed away Monday evening, May 18, 2015 at the Wrightsville Manor following an extended illness.

Mrs. Stapleton was born November 15, 1929 in Swainsboro to the late Thomas Watson Scarboro and Edna Rushing Scarboro.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Bennett, Sadie Herrington and Lillie Mae Harmon; brothers, Willie Scarboro, Luther Scarboro, Arthur Scarboro and W. T. Scarboro; infant grandson, Charlie Willis, Jr.; great grandson, Shane Pernell; special friend, Elder Woodrow Beasley; special son-in-law, Joe Burke.  Mrs. Stapleton lived in the Emanuel county and surrounding counties until moving to Kite 22 years ago.  She loved sewing, gardening, cross stitch, baby sitting and was very indenpendent.  Mrs. Stapleton was always helping other people even when she was in the nursing home.  She attended the Kite Church of God.

Survivors include her son, Charlie Willis of Kite; daughters, Rita (William) Herrington of Kite, Linda Thompson Ensley of Sylva, NC and Georgia Policka of Minter; sister-in-laws, Oakie Moore and Oneta Scarboro both of Swainsboro; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at the Kite Church of God at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 with Rev. Allen Meeks officiating.  Interment will be in the Kite City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at the church.

Pallbearers are Joey Burke, Mike Pernell, Jerry Thompson, Christian Newsome, Mike Buxton and Leonard Oglesby.

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers memorials may be make in memory of Mrs. Bertha Mae Stapleton to Kite Church of God, 309 College St., Kite GA 31049. or a charity of your choice.
