Mr. Billy Wendell Thompson, 74, of Claxton, Georgia, and formerly of Twin City, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 13, 2026.
He was born on March 5, 1952, to the late Onnie and Ella Mae (Smith) Thompson. Billy attended Emanuel County Institute in Twin City.
He lived in various parts of Georgia throughout his life, working as a skilled mechanic. He later worked as a groundskeeper for Claxton Poultry in Claxton. He truly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, especially when traveling on his motorcycle. He settled in Claxton in his later years, where he enjoyed gardening, watching old western movies, listening to music, visiting with his neighbors, and riding his motorcycle.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, Onnie Thompson Jr. and Jerry R. Thompson, and his grandchildren, Kimberly Thayer and Devan Thompson.
He is survived by his sisters, Diane Pitts of Swainsboro, and Debbie Thompson of Fernandina, Florida; his children, Katosha Thompson of Pembroke, and Gene Thompson (Misty) of Norristown, his grandchildren, Bo Newsome of Pembroke, Blake Thompson, and Chasity Thompson, both of Norristown, Brittani Thompson of Midville, and 11 great grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Chapman Funeral Home in Swainsboro, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Twin City, Georgia. Minister Mark Hardin will officiate the services.
