Bobby "Russell" Jones Sr.

Mr. Bobby “Russell” Jones, Sr., 72, of Dellwood, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Russell was born on February 17, 1954, in Louisville to the late Howard Russell Jones and Christine Austin Jones. He attended school in Wadley and Lumberton, NC, where he enjoyed playing baseball and football and earned several awards. He began his career with the Georgia Department of Transportation and later worked as a carpenter with Greenway Construction.

Russell loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed just about anything that got him outside. He played softball for many years and later played COED softball with his children when they were old enough. Fishing was one of his greatest passions, especially on the Oconee and Altamaha Rivers, where he was always hoping to land a big catfish. He also enjoyed hunting, shooting pool, throwing darts, and playing poker. Russell took great pride in teaching his children the hobbies he loved, and his wife was by his side through it all. Together they shared countless adventures and stories that will be remembered for years to come. He was also a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. 

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Donald Jones, Ronald Jones; half-sister, Sara Betty McAfee. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Ann Jones; sons, Bobby Russell Jones, Jr. (Jamey), Mitchell Jones; daughters, Michelle Lampp (Doug), Melissa Jones; brother, Tommy Jones (Dana); 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; his precious dog of 15 years, Rock; and many friends. 

To honor Russell’s wishes, he will be cremated and the family will host his memorial on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at the Hwy 46, West Bridge outside of Soperton at the boat landing.
