Mrs. Bonita Shepard,90, a long-time resident of Swainsboro, died Friday the 4th day of March at Emanuel Medical Center.
Born in 1925 in Crewsville, Florida; Bonita, born Bonita Collins lived a happy, full and vibrant life. She was a cocktail waitress to the WWII heroes at the Roosevelt Hotel in Jacksonville Florida, an LPN and head nurse, a Police Officer’s wife, and in later years stayed on the highway with her husband's trucking business.
Bonita loved being in the garden, cooking, canning and preserving, painting, sitting on her porch and socializing, was an avid storyteller with a keen ability to remember every detail of her past and bring the characters in her stories to life. Truly last of the Steel Magnolias and known to keep her pistol by her side.
Survivors in attendance include her son Clayton Shepard of Swainsboro Ga, daughter Linda Webb of Collierville TN, Grandson Dallas Bailes of Montgomery AL, Granddaughter Scarlett Bailes of Brooklyn NY and great granddaughter Emily Roddenberry of Chester, Ga.
She joins her loving husband Barney Shepard and daughter Sandra Bailes in heaven.
Graveside services will be held at the Kite City Cemetery 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016 with Reverend Allen Meeks officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home.
