Mrs. Brenda Hodge, 72, passed away at her residence in Swainsboro on August 30, 2026.

She was born in 1954 in Florence, SC, to the late Melvis and Joyce Barano Hodge. She lived in Hilton Head for the majority of her life until relocating to Swainsboro in 2019 with her daughter.

She was a woman whose greatest joy came from the simple things in life. She had a heart especially devoted to children and spent much of her life caring for, loving, and nurturing them. To the children around her, she was more than a nanny — she was a safe place, a loving heart, and someone they could always count on. She found happiness in music, the warmth of good company, and the peaceful beauty of island life. She didn’t need much to be happy; she appreciated the little moments that made life beautiful—the sound of music, laughter shared with the people she loved, and the comfort of simply being together. Her life was a beautiful reminder that the greatest joys are often found in the simplest things.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alan Pittman, and a great-granddaughter, Kamoni Black.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristy Hodge, of Swainsboro, her grandchildren, Alexandria (Billy Steele) Tucker, Christian Tucker, Janice (William Mincey) Black, her great-grandchildren, Jason Black, Logan Black, Joshua Black, Arabella Black, Aubrey Black, KJ Steele, and Kaelyn Steele, a sister, Lisa Hodge, and close family friend, Howard Hopkins.
