Catherine G. Kirby, age 77, of Swainsboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 11, 2023, following an extended battle with cancer.
Catherine was born in Lyons, Georgia to Cordie and Dora Mae (Riner) Wiggins on September 29, 1945. Catherine attended Canoochee Baptist Church and enjoyed hearing and spreading the Gospel of her Lord and Savior.
Through her life, Catherine constantly helped others. She was kind, compassionate, and caring to anyone in need. She had strong beliefs no matter the situation that everyone should have a shoulder to lean on, love, and support. Catherine was accepting of everyone she knew.
After retiring from carpentry, she served Bill and Ruthie Crider as an housekeeper. The Kirby family would like to also extend their sincere heart felt thankfulness to the Crider family.
In Catherine’s spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends while cooking some of the greatest southern food. She could always fry chicken and bake a cake for anyone who requested one and did so with much love.
Catherine was a loving wife and mother. She and her husband, Willie M. Kirby, who passed away in June of 2000, raised five children; Mark D. Kirby, James D. Kirby, Gregory A. Kirby, Connie K. Beasley, and Cynthia K. Folds-Bailey.
Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Kirby; Son James D. Kirby, Parents, Cordie and Dora Mae (Riner) Wiggins; Sisters, Jeanette Kirkland, Dollie Mitchell, Shirley Coleman; Brother, Infant. Survivors include; Sons, Mark D. Kirby (Sheila), Gregory A. Kirby, both of Nunez, Georgia; Daughters, Connie K. Beasley and Cynthia K. Folds-Bailey (Daniel “Popz”), both of Twin City. Grandchildren; Charlie Z. Henry, Zeth C. K. Folds, Denton-Kade Beasley, Zhen C. E. Folds, Daisy C. Kirby.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund C/O Barbara Williamson 114 Frances Avenue, Swainsboro GA 30401.
The family would like to thank the Claxton family for their devoted support during such a difficult time.
Services will be on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Chapman Funeral Home of 427 N. Main Street, Swainsboro, Georgia, 30401. A Graveside Service will follow at Union Primitive Baptist Church of 11 Trout Road, Swainsboro, Georgia.
The family would also like to invite everyone to a collation meal following the Graveside Service
