Ms. Catherine Mattox, 95, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at her residence following an extended illness.
Ms. Mattox was born February 18, 1925 to the late Mack Clark and Annie Jackson Clark. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Mattox; sons, Steve Mattox, Rusty Mattox, and Dave Mattox. Ms. Mattox was born in Baxley. She moved to Swainsboro with her husband and two young sons in 1955. Ms. Mattox was a faithful Christian and devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Swainsboro for over 60 years. During that time, she was a member of the Flanders Hall, Fountain Sunday School Class, The Weslyan Circle of UMW and 55 and Alive. She was an avid gardener. Ms. Mattox loved her yard and flowers as much as she loved her family - maybe even more at times. She was a matriarch to her family - strong-willed, loving, faithful, straight forward and to the point. Ms. Mattox walked in her faith and lived by her faith.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Brandy Murphy of Swainsboro, Eric Mattox (Ashley) of Atlanta, and Christina Mattox (Brian Thompson) of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Taylor Rogers (Daniel) of Oak Park, Brandon Strange (Mady Darvy) of Los Angeles California, Sera Strange (Michael Wallis) of Oak Park, Lilly Mattox of Atlanta, and Samantha Sherrill of Panama City Florida, great-great-grandchildren, Daniel Rogers, Olivia Rogers, Abel Rogers, and Dalton Wallis; daughter-in-law, Sherry Mattox (David Williams) of Atlanta; special family friend, Ann Peebles; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 12, 2020 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Swainsboro with Rev. David Unkles officiating.
Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Swainsboro.
Pallbearers are Wayne Scarboro, John Allen Bailey, Chan Strange and Bo Lariscy.
In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6 feet rule will be enforced during visitation and service.
