Mr. Charles Drone Hudson, Sr., 78, of Swainsboro passed away Friday morning, March 3, 2017, at Fairview Park Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Hudson was born December 18, 1938 in Swainsboro, to the late Oliver Gilbert Hudson, Sr. and Ola Fomula Scott Hudson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver ‘Junior” Hudson, Jr, Brent Hudson, and Wayne Hudson; sisters, Johnnie Mae Riner, and Opal Jones; son, Scotty Hudson; granddaughters, Haleigh Hudson, and Mattie James Henry. Mr. Hudson lived most of his life in Emanuel County. He played football for the Swainsboro Tigers, he graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1957, in 1958 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he was aboard the U.S.S. Essex, after leaving the Navy in 1962 he served as a Police Officer for the City of Swainsboro, he also was a farmer, logger, a skilled Barber, and retired truck driver. He loved fishing, riding his golf cart, having friends and family over, and talking about the Bible. Mr. Hudson was a member of Emanuel Christian Ministries, he also attended and supported Mt. Shady Baptist Church where he had deep family ties.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley H. Hudson of Swainsboro; sons, Drone (Beth) Hudson, Jr. of Swainsboro, Mark (Leslie) Hudson of Sandersville, and Matt (Hollie) Henry of Summertown; daughters, Sarah (David) Sherrod of Millen, Amy (Brandy) Screws of Kite, and Beth (Jason) Martin of Twin City; brother Bunny (Romona) Hudson of Swainsboro; sister, Margaret Hudson Moss of Augusta; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hudson of Kite; 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Shady Baptist Church 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017 with Reverends Rusty Moore and Wayne Page officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Shady Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Louis Pearce.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Mt. Shady Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Mitchell Hudson, Jake Martin, King Screws, Dakota Suggs, Henry Sherrod, Hudson Sherrod, Weston Moore, and Chaz Hudson.
