Mr. Charles Dwane Griffith, 81, of Dellwood passed away early Thursday morning July 11, 2013 at the Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro following a brief illness.
Mr. Griffith was born in Lansing Michigan to the late Sidney Griffith and Lois Hendershot Griffith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Winona Renee Griffith.
Mr. Griffith lived in Lansing Michigan until he joined the military in 1951. Mr. Griffith was in the United States Army and served in the Korea War. He received the Korean Service Ribbon with Two Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and First Oak Leaf Cluster and other metals during his time in the military. After serving in the military, Mr. Griffith returned back to Michigan were he was the manager at Estes Furniture Warehouse in Michigan. In the late 1970’s Mr. Griffith and his family moved to Emanuel County. He was employed with Adrian Homes as a Security Guard. Mr. Griffith liked to cook, read, do word puzzles and play dominos. He attended Dellwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Bonnie L. Griffith of Dellwood; daughters, Robbin R. DeLoach of Metter, Nancy Griffith of Swainsboro and April (Jimmy) Barwick of Swainsboro; brothers, Clare Griffith and Bobby Griffith both of Lansing Michigan; sisters, Geraldine Sherman, Hilda Schilling and Mary Lou Griffith all of Lansing Michigan; sister-in-law, Jackie Baker of Ontonagon Michigan; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 3 o’clock Sunday, afternoon July 14, 2013 with Rev. Joe Bedgood officiating. Burial will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery near Swainsboro.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm until time of service at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be the Army Honor Guard.
