Mr. Charles S. Crawford, 77, of Soperton was called to Glory Sunday morning, August 11, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Crawford was born in Williamsburg Kentucky to the late Charles Crawford and Bessie Combest Crawford. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Betty Crawford. Mr. Crawford joined the military in 1955. Mr. Crawford was in the United States Air Force and served in the Korea War and Vietnam War. After serving in the military he moved to Cincinnati Ohio. Mr. Crawford moved to Swainsboro in 1971. He was a self employed contractor and was in the Georgia State Defense Guard for 15 years. Mr. Crawford was a Past member of the Swainsboro Masonic Lodge #244 and Past Patrian of the Swainsboro Eastern Star #139. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 9 years.
Survivors include his son, Chuck (Pam) Crawford of Statesboro; daughter, Charlotte Davis of Soperton; brother, Wiley Crawford of Detroit Michigan; sisters, Betty Rosen, Peggy West, Georgette Burress and Bonnie Schenz all of Cincinnati Ohio; sister-in-law, Bertha Crawford of Cincinnati Ohio; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Southside Baptist Church at 11:00 o’clock Friday morning, August 16, 2013 with Reverend Earl Warnock and Chaplain Roger Holley officiating. Mr. Crawford will Lie in State one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Midville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jeff Paynter, Steve Burress, Davey Saxon, Linwood McNure, Stan Kendall and Charles Proctor.
