Mrs. Claudie Mae Averett Riner, 96, of Swainsboro passed away Wednesday morning, December 23, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Riner was born May 24, 1919 in Kite to the late Robert Martin Averett and O'kella Steptoe Averett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Riner; daughters, Mary Tant and Barbara Ann Gilbert; brothers, Robert Averett, Kea Averett, and Ellis Averett; sisters, Lila V. Johnson, Pauline McCoy, and Sidney Williams. Mrs. Riner was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Riner loved spending time with her family, liked to listen to gospel music, and was a member of Sunlight Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura Mae Mason of Swainsboro, Inez (John) Conley of Fayetteville, and Hazel (Ronnie) Rickerson of Twin City; sons, James (Geraldine) Riner of Fargo, Hershel Riner of Swainsboro, and Robert (Judy) Riner of Swainsboro; 26 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, December 26, 2015 with Reverends Allen Meeks, Arthur Conley, and Joe Bedgood officiating.
Interment will be in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Kite with Reverend Sterling Averett officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Chapman Funeral Home.
