Mr. Crantford Eugene Smith, Sr., 79, of Swainsboro died Thursday evening, October 16, 2014 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness.
Mr. Smith was born April 19, 1935 in Greene County GA to the late Morgan Amos Smith and Lillie Bell Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin Smith, Alford Smith, David Smith, Curtis Smith; sister, Versie Forehand. He lived all his adult life in Emanuel County. Mr. Smith retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after 40 years of service. He also served 10 years in the Army National Guard and 15 years with the Swainsboro Volunteer Fire Department and Civil Defense. Mr. Smith loved fishing, talking on his CB Radio and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Rock Worship Center in Stillmore.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jo Ann Lumley Smith of Swainsboro, sons, Gene (Cris) Smith and Stanley Smith both of Swainsboro; daughters, Faye (Ronnie) Page of Albertville, AL and Jeanie (Donald Lee) Hooks of Swainsboro; brother, Perry (Margaret) Smith of Alto GA; sister, Ruth (Leo) Michaud of Copperas Cove, TX; grandchildren, Loren Page, Jacob (Ashley) Jackson, Brandon Hooks, Justin Hooks, Sport Hooks, Joni Page, Becky Page, Mandy Page, Carley Smith and Trey Smith; 19 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2014 with Reverend Ronnie Collins and Elder Tommy Rountree officiating.
Interment will be in the Holton’s Chapel Cemetery near Covena with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening, October 18, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be James Crowe, Don Carroll, George Sims, Vince Scott, Lil’ Roy Smith, Matt Rountree.
