Mrs. Cuba Rea Giles Powell, 86, of Swainsboro passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Emanuel County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Powell was born July 22, 1936, in Swainsboro to Aaron Lloyd Giles and Ethel Peebles Giles. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Robert Powell; grandson, Jeremy Love; brothers, Henry Thomas “Son” Giles, Floyd Fitzsimmons “Bud” Giles, Aaron L. “Pug” Giles, Rudolph Giles, Lloyd “Spanker” Giles; sisters, Ruby Henry, Lucille Bush, Gladys Armstrong, Rosa Lee Peebles. Mrs. Powell was a very simple lady. She enjoyed cooking, especially with black pepper, and her “Granny Coffee”. She was always known as “Aunt Cuba”. Mrs. Powell was a Godly woman who loved her family and loved to make everyone happy.
She is survived by her son, Robert Steven Powell (Deana) of Kite; daughters, Phyllis Powell Gantt (Stuart) of Boynton Beach, FL, Brenda Powell Love (David) of Kite; grandchildren, Brad Powell, Kim Newman (Frank), Crystal Diane Love, Dr. Alex Gantt-Howrey (Michael), Haley Victoria Gantt; greatgrandchild, Chandler Newman; sister, Ethelyn Brady of Swainsboro; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held 4:00 p.m. October 22, 2022, at New Home Baptist Church in Kite.
Interment will follow in Gumlog Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at New Home Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Fortner, Floyd Collins, Todd Fortner, Danny Fortner, Brad Powell, and Lewie Fortner.
