Mr. David Ronald Fields, 74, of Kite passed away Friday, December 9, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born December 16, 1947, in Swainsboro to W. E. Fields and Mary Ann Price Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Ray Fields, Toby Fields, Randy Fields, Tommy Edward Fields; and sister, Gloria Kitchens.
Although born in Swainsboro, he later placed his roots in Kite after marrying his wife of 54 years, Sandra Rowland Fields, and deciding to raise their family there. He was a fixture in the community and was known for his dedication to the Kite First Baptist Church for over 40 years. During his time in the Church, he served in various roles including Song Leader and as a Deacon.
David was always known for his sense of humor and fierce love for his family. He would light up any room he entered with his smile and seldom found an automotive issue that he couldn’t resolve. For years, he was the “go to” guy for many in the community through his work at several area dealerships. Having a desire to maximize his time closer to home and to serve as his own boss, he later opened Fields Garage in Kite.
He loved all animals and saved many wayward pets ranging from cats and dogs to horses and his own “backyard” deer. An outstanding horseman in his own right, he was a member of the National Barrell Horse Association and participated in many competitions around Georgia. Some of his fondest moments were of those times in a saddle.
He was recognized for multiple hobbies including golfing, fishing, camping, and building memories with his grandkids. During Fall Friday nights and Saturdays, friends and family knew he could be found cheering and offering advice for his favorite football teams including the Johnson County Trojans and his UGA Bulldogs.
He is survived by wife, Sandra Rowland Fields; son, Chris Fields (Cori) of Wrightsville; daughter, Teri Ward (Lanier) of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Hunter Aldrich (Emily), Nick Lawhorn (Maddie), Lane Aldrich (Breanne), Allie Ward, Ethan Fields, Nathaniel Fields, Lucas Fields; great-granddaughter, Ellie Aldrich; mother-in-law, Geneva Rowland of Kite; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Kite City Cemetery.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2022, at Kite First Baptist Church with Reverend Burton Dixon and Reverend Louis Pearce officiating.
