David Eugene "Huggie Bear" "Big Daddy Cross" Cross

Mr. David Eugene Cross “Huggie Bear" and "Big Daddy Cross", 68, of Swainsboro passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Augusta following an extended illness.

Mr. Cross was born July 9, 1953, in Garfield to Eugene Branch and Aslean Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; Leroy Cannady. Mr. Cross served as a Navy Veteran, Police Officer and Secretary Officer in Augusta, GA. He had a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Doctor’s Degree in Theology. Mr. Cross was a dedicated Sunday School Superintendent, Chairmen of the Deacon Chair, served occasionally as a secretary, and a lay speaker. He loved to sing and was known as an excellent teacher, counselor, and advisor. Mr. Cross was very knowledgeable of God’s word. After his love for God, then it was his family. He was a member at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his dearly beloved and dedicated wife, Melissa Cross of Swainsboro; one son, Larry (Anita) Cross of Augusta; brothers, Charlie (Rose) Cannady of Dublin, Charles (Mary) Cannady of Swainsboro, Gene (Shawanda) Branch of Millen, Willie (Natosha) Branch of Millen, Daniel (Denise) Branch of Swainsboro; sisters, Annie Cannady of Twin City, Betty Lee (Tony) Smiley of Augusta, Lillie (Wallace) Turner of Twin City, Emma Jean Cannady of Greer, SC, Catherine (Bobby) Williams of Millen, Betty Ann Branch of Millen; one grandson, Aaron Cross; one granddaughter, Anniya Cross; two devoted uncles, Rollie (Rosie) Cross of Swainsboro, John Willie (Roxie) Cross of Vero Beach, Florida; special family members, Tyrone Hoover, Brunelle Hoover, Rollie James Clark, Mary Ann Daniels, Christopher Edenfield; and a special host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Swainsboro City Auditorium.

Interment will follow at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family’s first will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Then will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. August 20, 2021, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Repass will be held at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are Charles Cannady, Fred Cannady, Vince Cannady, Tank Cannady (Justin), Daniel Bostic and Tyrone Hoover.
