Dewey Wendell Bishop, of Swainsboro, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on the night of August 21, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on August 8, 1947, in Swainsboro, he was the son of the late Earnest Bishop and Clara Bishop. Wendell grew up on his family’s homeland, where he learned the value of hard work, family, and faith. He graduated from Swainsboro High School and soon began building a life rooted in service, dedication, and love for the people around him.
He worked for Handy House for several years before starting a career at Ramsey Candy Company in Swainsboro, where he faithfully served for 36 years. Wendell built strong friendships with his coworkers and left behind a legacy of loyalty and dependability that carried through his entire working life. He retired with pride in the work he had accomplished and the bonds he had made along the way.
Wendell was a man who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, where he found peace and joy. He enjoyed going to the lake with family and friends, cooking out, and playing cards during long afternoons filled with laughter and fellowship. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he found delight in the little moments with them, like making mud pies and teaching them the importance of love and togetherness.
He had a deep love for his dogs, Gabby, Boo Boo, and Chico, who were always by his side and brought him endless comfort and companionship.
Wendell was also a man of unwavering faith. He read his Bible daily and found strength and encouragement in the Word of God. He often watched Billy Graham and admired his ministry, drawing inspiration from the message of salvation and grace. Wendell was a saved Christian and lived his life as a testimony of his faith in the Lord.
Above all, Wendell was a devoted family man. He was a proud and loving father to his one and only daughter, Brandi Bishop Collins, who he adored beyond measure. His love for her was constant and unconditional, and he took great pride in being not only her dad but also her biggest supporter and encourager. He strove every day to be the best father he could be, and Brandi will forever carry his lessons, love, and guidance in her heart.
Wendell was also a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Susan Bishop, with whom he shared eight wonderful years. Together they built a marriage grounded in faith, love, and respect. His role as a husband, father, and grandfather reflected the values he cherished most—putting family first, working hard, and keeping the Lord at the center of every part of life.
Wendell’s life was one of faith, family, and love. He leaves behind not only cherished memories but also an example of how to live with humility, kindness, and devotion. His presence, his laugh, and his steady words of encouragement will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 8 years, Susan Drake Bishop; his children, Brandi Collins (Dewayne), Nicky Drake (Calli), Julie Moore (Alan), and Michael Daley (Miracle). He also leaves behind his nine cherished grandchildren.
In honoring Wendell’s wishes, a private service will be held at Eastbrook Cemetery and Mausoleum with Rev. Mark Hardin officiating with entombment to follow.
