Dr. Bennie Gene “Ben” Odom, 66, of Swainsboro died Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro following an extended illness.
Dr. Odom was born February 21, 1948 in Norristown to the late Bennett Odom and Dallas Peacock Odom. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thetus Odom, Delmas Odom, Carlton Odom and Winky Odom; sisters, Juanita Moxley and Jeanette Davis. Dr. Odom graduated from Adrian High School where he was a star basketball player and earned a scholarship to go to college. Over several years he earned degrees in electronics, business, economics and a doctor of chiropractic. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and a member of Southside Baptist Church, Doctors of the Georgia Chiropractic Association and Norristown Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife Scarlett Henry Odom of Swainsboro; daughters, Michelle (Shawn) Riner of Swainsboro and Renee Odom of Chicago Illinois; stepdaughters, Natochia Henry of San Diego, California and Michelle Thompson of Swainsboro; brothers, Jerry (Carolyn) Odom of Swainsboro and Barry Wilder Odom of Hephizabah; granddaughters, Avery Berry and Maci Lively both of Swainsboro; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Southside Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014 with Reverends Earl Warnock and Hershal Clements officiating. Dr. Odom will Lie in State one hour prior to service. Interment will be in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, August 12, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Odom, Lionel Odom, Greg Odom, David Moore, Waylon Jones and Marcio Silvia.
Honorary pallbearers are Adult I Sunday School Class, Doctors of the GA Chiropractic Association, Gary Hodges, Van Vareen and William Roberson.
