Mrs. Edna Stephens Gay, 88, of Swainsboro died Tuesday afternoon, December 9, 2014 at the Emanuel Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gay was born September 6, 1926 in Swainsboro to the late Charles Alexander Stephens and Mary Douglas Stephens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Etheld Gay; sister, Allene S. Brown. Mrs. Gay was a life long resident of Emanuel County and a homemaker. She loved yard work, sewing, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and going to exercise classes at the Senior Center. Mrs. Gay was a member of the United Primitive Baptist Church in Swainsboro.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Lora) Gay of Ludowici and Terry (Fran) Gay of Swainsboro; sisters, Cubia Dasher of Augusta and Doris Jones of Swainsboro; grandsons, Adam Gay, Jonathan Gay and Daniel Gay all of Swainsboro; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 11 o’clock Thursday morning December 11, 2014 with Elders Lee Price and Howard Rushing officiating.
Burial will be in the Swainsboro City cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday December 11, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Adam Gay, Jonathan Gay, Daniel Gay, Jim Deckle, George Steele and Johnny Ray Stafford.
