Mr. Elzie Stapleton, 76, of Kite passed away Saturday morning, April 2, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Stapleton was born August 3, 1939 in Wrightsville, Ga. to the late Jim Stapleton and Elthel Pernell Stapleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jennifer Stapleton; brothers, Ellis Stapleton, and Jimmy Lee Stapleton; sister, Vada Lee Stapleton. Mr. Stapleton lived most his life in Johnson Co., he was 2nd of 9 children, he grew up in farming, and later working in turpentining, he had retired as a logger. He was avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Meeks.
Survivors include his wife, Corinne Stapleton of Kite; son, Chris (Kathy) Stapleton of Adrian; daughters, Jenny Hopkins of Kite, Tina (Gerald) Thomas of Rentz, Connie (Jess) Bush of Adrian, and Stephanie (Tony) Hutcheson of Swainsboro; brother, Ellie (Mary Sally) Stapleton of Adrian; sisters, Claudie Cordry of Wrightsville, Evalena (J.H.) Meeks of Kite, Lynn (Ervin) Stapleton of Kite, and Virginia (Paul) Coleman of Meeks; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at Rehoboth Baptist Church at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 2016 with Reverends Donnie Bush and Allen Green officiating. Mr. Stapleton will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6pm. to 8pm. Monday afternoon, April 4, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Kevin Stapleton, Kyle Stapleton, Lance Hutcheson, Shannon Stapleton, Sherman Stapleton, Robin Stapleton, Sammy Henry, Steven Stapleton, and Andy Tant.
