Evelyn B. Hendley

August 21, 1935 — April 21, 2012

Mrs. Evelyn B. Hendley, 76, of Swainsboro died Saturday evening, April 21, 2012 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta following a brief illness.

Mrs. Hendley was born in Oak Park and a native and life long resident of Emanuel County.  She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Daisy Findley Boatright, special mother Addie Lou Boatright and husband of 56 ½ years John D. Hendley.

Mrs. Hendley was an active member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge 1186, where she also served as secretary.  She loved working in her garden and spending time with family and friends.  Mrs. Hendley was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Survivors include her son, Darven F. (Joyce) Hendley of Orangeburg, SC; brother, Benjamin (Diane) Boatright of Athens, GA; sisters, Nora Lee Ennis of Macon and Martha (Ronnie) Murphy of Laurens SC; grandchildren, Scotty Hendley of Swainsboro, Crystal Hendley of Swainsboro, Stephanie Jackson of Gaston, SC, Pam Vaughn of Swansea, SC; great grandchildren, Skylar Hendley of Swainsboro, Louis Vidal of Shawano WI, Trinity-Hayden Smith of Swainsboro, Samantha Roberson of Gaston SC, Harley Vaughn of Swansea SC, Tommy Vaughn of Swansea of SC; great-great grandchild, Evin Vidal of Shawano, WI; special niece, Donna Rachels of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at 3 o’clock Tuesday, afternoon April 24, 2012 with Reverends Randy Adams and Ray Jenkins officiating.  Mrs. Hendley will Lie in State one hour prior to service.  Burial will be in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Garfield.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday April 23, 2012 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Danley Hart, Roger Johnson, Johnson Turner, Roy Rachels, Chris Drake, Darrell Drake, James Owens and G.W. Johnson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Senior Adults Sunday School Class.

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Evelyn B. Hendley to the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Building and Grounds Fund, 1593 Mt. Olivet Church Rd., Garfield GA 30425
