George A. Meeks

Kite

Mr. George A. Meeks, 85, of Kite passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Emanuel Medical Center.  He was born October 6, 1939, in Covena to the late James Sidney Meeks and Mollie Lurene Flanders.  Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Weldon Meeks, James Meeks, Clifford Meeks, Harvey Meeks; sister, Willie T. Durden; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Reverend T.J. & Thelma Webb.  He began his career in the 1950’s at the New York Rubber Company and Diamond Brothers Furniture. Mr. George was a lifelong farmer with cattle and crops. He loved putting in a hard day’s work.  He was the owner of Meeks Farm & Nursery near Kite. Mr. George also loved going to the mountains and collecting pocketknives.  He was a member of the Kite Church of God.  Mr. George was named Emanuel County Farm Family of the Year in 2015.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bobbie Webb Meeks of Kite; sons, Steve Meeks (Nancy) and Andy Meeks (Mandy), both of Kite; sister, Ruth Rountree of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Trey Meeks (Stephanie) of Kathleen, Thomas Meeks (Sarah) of Dublin, Joshua Meeks (Kaylen) of Kite, Matthew Meeks (Nicole) of Statesboro, Cole Meeks (Sarah), Marshall Meeks, Morgan Meeks, Sydnie Rae Meeks, all of South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Meeks, Harper Meeks, Delia Ann Meeks, John Wilson Meeks, Laramie Rayne Meeks, Carolyne Elizabeth Meeks, Margaret Meeks, Mallie Kate Meeks, and George Ellis Meeks, due in February.

Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Hicks officiating assisted by Mr. Johnny Claxton and Reverend Don Carroll.

Interment will follow at Bethel Church Cemetery with Committal by Reverend Lamar Kersey.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Robert Webb, Jr., Tim Rountree, Rev. Jeffrey Meeks, Kelmer Durden, Jr., Aaron Williford, Oscar Cruz-Martinez, and Rev. Randy Webb.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smoky Mountain Children’s Home or Gideons, and mailed to Kite Church of God, P. O. Box 309, Kite, GA 31049.
