Mr. George Emory Radford, 82, of Swainsboro passed away Wednesday evening, October 12, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Radford was born May 3, 1934 in Jesup, Georgia to the late Claude L. Radford and Estell Trull Radford. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, David Wayne Radford, and George “Rusty” Radford; brothers, M.C. Radford, Curtis Radford, Johnny Radford, and Sherman Radford; sisters, Thurl Taylor, and Hazel Crosby. Mr. Radford joined the Navy at 17 and after spending 20 years he retired from the Navy and pursued a career in law enforcement where he was a police officer in Midville, Ga. and worked security at East Georgia College. In 1997 he went to work for the Georgia Department of Corrections and worked there until retiring. He was loved by and an inspiration to all who know him. Mr. Radford enjoyed fishing, working on his tractor, and working outside. He was a Member of Blundale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah M. Radford of Swainsboro; sons, Anthony (Tabitha) Chalkley of Swainsboro, Robert (Jolie) Chalkley, Jr. of Ellabell, Ga.; Daughters, Sheila (Jesse) Sandlin of Dothan, AL., Angela Jacobs of Swainsboro; sisters, Essie Murry of Swainsboro, Elaine Young of Harlem, Ga., Nell Godbold of Jacksonville, FL.;20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Blundale Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 with Reverend Shannon Boula officiating.
Interment will follow in the Blundale Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 am. to 12 pm. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Blundale Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Angela Jacobs, Lawton Henry, Riner Wiggins, Mathew Chalkley, Michael Chalkley, Donny Murry, Shane Woods, and Blake Chalkley.
