Greg Barber

June 19, 1957 — June 30, 2025

Mr. Greg Barber, 68, passed away at his residence on Monday morning, June 30, 2025.

Greg Barber was born in Hawkinsville on June 19, 1957. He was the son of the late Elmo Barber and Grace Miller Lindsey.

During his youth, he enjoyed shooting the basketball with his friend and shooting pool in tournaments. He worked most of his life as a truck driver, alongside his labrador retriever, Winchester, that rode in the truck with him. He spent much of that time teaching him several tricks including retrieving Greg’s favorite beverage from the fridge, an ice-cold beer with salt around the rim of the can.

Greg spent much of his retirement riding buggies (UTVs) with all of his friends and family members; going to Biloxi, Mississippi; going to the mountains with his late wife, his grandson and his niece; grilling deer-sausage, roll-ups, steaks and lasagna; hunting deer with his son and daughter-in-law; spending time with his daughter’s three children; watching golf on the television; going to the races, which he and his late wife formerly participated in as a driver; and listening to the “oldies” station on the radio. He was always ready to get involved when his friends were having a good time.

At the time of his passing, he had two dogs, Roscoe and Lola, and one cat, Sylvester

He is preceded in death by his wife, Debra Purvis Barber, his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn “Candy” and Donut Carroll, his parents, and a sister, Gail Wright.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Ashley Barber of East Dublin, his grandchildren, Garrett Barber, Raleigh Carroll, Rhyland Carroll, and Justice Carroll, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Chucky Bowen, and JoAnn and Bill Josey, and a special niece, Hayley Palmer.
