Harold Claxton

June 17, 1937 — January 5, 2015

Mr. Harold Claxton, 77, of Swainsboro died Monday morning, January 5, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

Mr. Claxton was born June 17, 1937 in Swainsboro to the late William Claxton and Nannie Lou Hudson Claxton.  He was preceded in death by his son, Henry Harold Claxton, Jr.  Mr. Claxton was a life long resident of Emanuel County.  He was owner of Claxton Insurance Sales.  Mr. Claxton served in the United States Air Force.  He loved fishing and gardening.  Mr. Claxton attended Union Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty E. Claxton of Swainsboro; daughters, Karen (David) Underwood of Lilburn, Laura (Billy) Tompkins of Cobbtown, Jill (Tom) Usher of Pooler, Julie (Andy) Love of Bloomingdale, Melanie Kirkland of Westgreen; son, Norman (Regina) Sandiford of Lumber City; brother, Lewis (Geraldine) Claxton of Swainsboro; step mother, Sara Hudson Claxton of Swainsboro; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Union Primitive Baptist Church in Swainsboro at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, January 7, 2015 with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating with Elder Sam Bowen assisting.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015 at Chapman Funeral Home.  Mr. Claxton will Lie in State one hour prior to service.

Pallbearers will be Steven Edwards, Matt Edwards, Tyler Williamson, Bill Hackle, Donnie Riner and Russ Harrell.

Honorary Pallbearers are Raymond Riner, Dan Muns, Tyson Stephens, Russell Moore, Willis Wombles and Rusty Moore.
