Mr. Hubert Thompson, 73, of Nunez passed away Wednesday morning, April 1, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Thompson was born July 8, 1941 in Swainsboro to the late Guyton Thompson and Callie Wilkes Thompson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Guyton Thompson, Jr. and Billy Thompson; sisters, Clyde Canady Helen Paris, Sara Lou Love.
Mr. Thompson was a life long resident of Emanuel County. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after 34 years of service as a maintenance equipement operator. Mr. Thompson loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and having family cookouts. He liked to go sight seeing at the beach, fishing, working on automobiles and doing small engine repair.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thompson of Nunez; sons, Lynn (Sandie) Thompson and Ricky (Diana) Thompson all of Swainsboro; daughter, Cindy (Greg) Riner of Swainsboro; sisters, Evelyn Beckham of Dublin, Dessie Hostilo of South Carolina, Marveline (William) Younker of Pooler and Sara Ellen (Tommy) Durden of Bathe SC; grandchildren, Justin Thompson, Jade Thompson, Guyton Thompson, Grayson Thompson and Daylan Riner all of Swainsboro; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Emanuel Christian Ministries at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, April 4, 2015 with Reverends Bunny Hudson and Jim Harrell officiating. Mr. Thompson will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery near Swainsboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, April 3, 2015 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Mark Canady, Joseph Canady, Brian Beckham, Keith Thompson, Tim Thompson, and John Younker.
Honorary Pallbearers will be J. Tyson Shephens and employees of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
