Mrs. Irene Marie Chappele Gross, 98, of Swainsboro passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Emanuel County Nursing Home. She was born on June 9, 1928, in Surrey, England to the late Robert George Chappele and Gladys Mary Carvell Chappele. Mrs. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Floyd Waldron; brothers, Rob Chappele, Bill Chappele; sister, Jose Madelyn Chappele Smith.
She lived a life filled with many interesting experiences and meaningful work. At just 16 years old, she served as a plane spotter during World War II, doing her part to help watch the skies. She later worked as a floral designer, where she was able to share her creativity and love of flowers with others. She also spent several years working at the library, a place where her love of books and helping people could shine. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 52 years, a commitment that was an important part of her life and faith.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Waldron (Christine) of Myakka, Florida, Michael Waldron (Ina) of Bradenton, Florida; daughter, Betty Yorks of Coco Beach, Florida; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with President Ryan Sconyers officiating.
Interment will be in Eastbrook Cemetery and Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
