Mr. Jack Dempsy Mason, 94, of Swainsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
Jack Dempsey Mason was born April 13, 1930, to Leonard L. and Myrtle Snell Mason of Swainsboro, Ga. He had four brothers and two sisters who all attended the Emanuel County School System. He was a graduate of Swainsboro High School. Like all his brothers, he served in the military.
In 1960, Mr. Mason married Nedra Ann Hooks and moved to Augusta, Ga., where he worked at the Savannah River Site. He loved the land and working outdoors, which led him to starting his lifelong business, Mason Tree and Turf Farm in Beech Island, S.C. He also enjoyed land procurement. He and wife Ann had one son, Stuart Lynn Mason, and later enjoyed being grandparents to two boys, Jack and Morgan Mason.
Although hard work was instilled in Mr. Mason's daily life, he and his wife were solid Christians and great supporters of Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga. His loves were God, country and family.
Mr. Mason and his wife enjoyed working and traveling together. After her death in 2023, he moved to Emanuel County and resided with his sister Peggy. In 2024 he became a resident of Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home due to declining health where he remained until his death April 1, 2025, at the age of 94.
Mr. Mason loved his family and friends deeply and lived his life fully. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nedra Ann Hooks Mason; sister, Ann Mason Sumner; brothers, Fred G. Mason, Sr., James B. Mason, Joe L. Mason, Charles L. Mason.
He is survived by son, Stuart Lynn Mason of Beech Island, SC; sister, Peggy M. Price of Swainsboro; brother-in-law, Pete Sumner of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Jack Windsor Mason and Morgan Mason, both of Beech Island, SC; honorary son and employee, Thomas Ingram (Speedy); longtime friend, Jack Chapell; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Hardin officiating.
Interment will follow at the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Mason’s nephews, Shannon Mason, Bobby Mason, Chuck Mason, Ryan Kersey and great nephews, Brian Harris, Jason Wiley.
