James Edward Martin

Mr. James Edward Martin, 71, of Swainsboro passed away, Friday, January 30, 2026, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was born on June 23, 1954, in Emanuel County to the late James Darley Martin and Oveta Altman Emery Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Steven Martin, Jeff Martin; sister, Frances Elaine Martin; great-grandchild, Bobby Paul Copeland Jr.

James was a hardworking man who believed in showing up, putting in an honest day’s work, and taking pride in what he did. He spent 40 years working as a carpenter at Scotts Mobile Homes, where his work ethic spoke louder than words ever could.

A true southern man through and through, Mr. James enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved watching westerns, spending time fishing, playing pool, and sitting back with a cup of coffee. Nothing meant more to him than his family, and he especially treasured his great-grandchildren, who brought him so much joy.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Martin; daughters, Lisa Martin, Amy Martin, Monica Norred, Melonie Burke, April Gregory, Jennie Martin; sons, James Martin Jr., Charlie Martin; brothers, Jesse Carl Martin, Willard Pete Martin; sisters, Diane Welch, Helen Womack, Terri Lamb, Donna Ruth Taylor, Martha Martin; good friend, Gerald Scott; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Morris Brantley officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Chapman Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers include Colby Martin, Clayton Martin, Chris Martin, Keith McCarty, Tyler McCarty, Joseph Gregory, Dillon Copeland, and Nathan Copeland.

Honorary pallbearers are brother-laws, Mike Gregory, Jeff Gregory, Donnie Gregory.
