Mr. James “Jimmy” Thornburg, Jr., 61, passed away at his home in Richmond Hill, in a house full of his family and their love.
He was born in 1963 in Savannah, GA. Since 1996 he and his family owned and operated Masters Touch Quality Painting serving the Savannah area. He was never one to remain idle, if not working for the business he could be found working at home or elsewhere, something he instilled in all of his children. He had high standards and believed he could (and he could) do anything and always encouraged and lifted others up to do the same.
He began pastoring at New Testament Missionary Outreach in Savannah in 2018, where his passion and love of the Lord was made clear to all in attendance. Although he began pastoring in 2018 he devoted most of his adult life to his ministry and missionary outreach, including serving on missions in Mexico, Haiti, Ukraine, and the Philippines.
Always one to try something new, he and his wife had ziplined, rode horses, and drove ATVs with their family on vacations. He loved trying new restaurants while out with his wife and family, but he would always return to Texas Roadhouse for a steak. He also loved dark chocolate and ice cream. He played guitar and sang at church and at home and taught his children how to do the same. Most of all his family, friends, and his congregation will remember Brother Jimmy for his strong work ethic, passion, determination, his love of teaching and helping others, and sharing the word of God with others.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Thornburg, Sr., a daughter, Jessica Susan Thornburg, a brother, Michael Thornburg, a sister, Donna Lee Wilfur, special grandparents, Arnold and Norma Gordon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Cecile Thornburg, his children and their spouses, Matthew (Samantha) Thornburg, Wesley (Lisa) Cartee, Jeremy (Jessica “Ellie”) Thornburg, Timothy (Miranda) Thornburg, Shaneska Blake, his grandchildren, Abigail, Aydian, Aryanna, Josiah, and Arabella, his mother, Frances Beaudoin, his siblings, Angela (Jimmy) Reno, Robert “Bobby” Thornburg, Isaac Thornburg, Rachel Thornburg, Richie Thornburg, and John Thornburg, a host of nieces and nephews, and many loving friends, co-workers, and his beautifully devoted congregation, as well as his brother, business partner, longtime friend, and everything else, Frank (Libby) Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the New Testament Missionary Outreach in Twin City, GA at 11:00am with Brother Elbert Austin officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow the services and the repast on Sunday, at 3:00pm at Bethel Cemetery, at 1036 Little Neck Rd, Savannah, GA 31419 with committal by Elder Ronnie Webb.
Pallbearers will be Nick Reno, Trace Reno, Dekwan Barnes, Zack Martin, Marquel Perry, Mitchell Theodore Pollard, Jr., Eddie Ortego, and Juwan Lee Harvey.
